Court Declares Huduma Namba Roll Out Illegal
The High Court has declared the rollout of Huduma Namba illegal.
The court ruled that the process is illegal because the government did not conduct a data protection impact assessment ahead of the launch.
The ruling was issued Wednesday by Justice Jairus Ng’aah.
“An order is hereby issued to bring into this honorable court to quash the government decision of November 18 2020 to roll out Huduma cards for being unlawful,” he said.
Katiba Institute filed a petition in November last year challenging the decision by the state to roll out Huduma cards without carrying out the data protection impact assessment.
The judge said all processes must be undertaken before the rollout.
