Clamour to have the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji dismissed from office has accelerated in recent days.

One more application for Haji’s removal from office was made this week, bringing the number of petitions before the Public Service Commission (JSC) seeking his ouster to three.

The first petition was filed by the sister of slain Dutch businessman Tob Cohen, Gabrielle Van Straten who accuses the DPP of mismanaging her late brother’s murder case.

In the second petition, the businessman Francis Nyaga Njeru accuses Haji of failing to act constitutionally in a Ksh.150 million land case against businessman Ahmed Rashid Jibril and his wife Farah Ali Mohamed.

The latest Haji ouster bid is by Former Jack and Jill proprietor Schon Ahmed Noorani who wants him sacked for ‘mishandling’ case where fellow businessman Rajendra Ratilal Sanghani allegedly failed to repay his debt totaling Kshs.167 million. He says the DPP closed his file prematurely.

All of Haji’s accusers want the PSC to find him unsuitable to hold office. They argue that the DPP is guilty of several offenses including abuse of office, incompetence, gross misconduct, favoritism, partiality, disregard of the rule of law, delay in the administration of justice, and non-compliance with chapter six of the Constitution, among others.

But prominent city lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi is hearing none of this. In fact, Ahmednasir, popular as Grand Mullah, claims the petitions are sponsored by individuals in government who wield so much power.

According to the lawyer, the petitions are being financed by these persons, who he says want Haji out.

“Very powerful government officials have raised tens of millions of Shillings to remove DPP Haji.” He said

Even though he did not disclose reasons why the said ‘powerful people’ are going after Haji, Ahmednasir says more petitions of similar nature will continue to be placed before the PSC.

“A number of Cabinet Secretaries have generously contributed to the fund. So if you see endless petitions to the Public Service Commission, then know they are generously funded!” he wrote on his Twitter account Wednesday morning.
