Forbes 2020 World’s Top Richest List
There are 2,095 billionaires in the world, Forbes has stated in the annual richest people in the world list. This is 58 fewer than a year ago and 226 fewer than just 12 days earlier when Forbes initially calculated these net worths revealing a dip in fortunes as tough economic times affect and rock everyone globally.
Of the billionaires who remain, 51pc are poorer than they were in 2019. In raw terms, the world’s billionaires are now worth Sh853 trillion ($8 trillion), down Sh74 trillion ($700 billion) from 2019.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is the world’s wealthiest person for the third year in a row, despite giving Sh3.6 trillion ($38 billion) worth of his Amazon stock to his ex-wife MacKenzie Bezos as part of their divorce settlement. He’s worth $113 billion (Sh12 trillion)
Bill Gates keeps his spot as number two richest, followed by luxury goods tycoon Bernard Arnault, who takes the spot Warren Buffett previously sat at number three for the first time.
Alice Walton, an heir to the Walmart fortune, is the richest woman. She is no. 9 globally at $54.4 billion (Sh5.8 trillion) Altogether 241 women made the list, including 7 who share a fortune with a spouse, sibling or child.
The biggest gainer in dollar terms is Qin Yinglin, the world’s richest pig breeder. He’s ranked No. 43 and is worth Sh2 trillion ($18.5 billion)–a $14.2 billion jump since 2019.
