Musk Backs Uhuru on Trump’s Aid Freeze

Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta’s remarks on the recent foreign aid cuts announced by U.S. President Donald Trump have sparked global reactions. The new directives, which halt financial assistance to foreign nations, have drawn mixed responses from leaders worldwide.

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, who now heads the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in Trump’s administration, is among the latest influential figures to weigh in on the matter. Reacting to Kenyatta’s statement, Musk simply commented on X: “Good for him!”

Musk’s reaction was in response to a post by ‘Libs of TikTok,’ which shared a viral clip of Kenyatta’s speech at the East Africa Region Global Health Security Summit in Mombasa. Addressing the audience at Pride Inn Paradise Beach Resort & Convention Center, Kenyatta dismissed the global backlash over Trump’s aid halt, asserting that America is under no obligation to fund other nations.

“Why are you crying? It’s not your government, it’s not your country,” Kenyatta said, drawing applause. “President Trump has no reason to give you anything. You don’t pay taxes in America; he is appealing to his people.”

Kenyatta urged African nations to shift their focus from dependency on Western aid and instead seek sustainable alternatives. “Instead of crying, we should ask ourselves, ‘what are we going to do to support ourselves?’” he challenged. “It’s time for us to use our resources for the right things. We are the ones using them for the wrong things.”

Following his inauguration on January 20, Trump signed an Executive Order to reassess U.S. foreign assistance, citing the need to prioritize American interests. Secretary of State Marco Rubio subsequently ordered a suspension of all State Department and USAID-funded aid on January 26 pending review.

The move continues to generate debate, with supporters lauding Trump’s stance on financial prudence and critics warning of potential economic repercussions for aid-dependent nations.
