Kenyatta University Lecturer Alleges Family Conspiracy to Finish Him In Ksh 55 Million Fraud
Nairobi, Kenya – July 12, 2025 – George Maina Muriithi, a lecturer at Kenyatta University, has been charged with defrauding businessman Martin Gitonga Kamanda of Ksh 55.5 million in a case that has taken a dramatic turn with allegations of a family vendetta.
Muriithi, appearing before Magistrate Robinson Ondieki at the Milimani Law Courts, pleaded not guilty and claimed that his sister and her husband, the complainant, are using the justice system to “frustrate” him financially due to a soured family relationship.
The charges stem from an alleged scheme between November 15, 2022, and January 1, 2024, where Muriithi is accused of conspiring with unidentified accomplices to deceive Kamanda by promising to sell 48,800 ordinary shares of Mara Ndovu Lodge Ltd in exchange for the substantial sum.
Additionally, prosecutors allege that Muriithi received the funds through Otieno & Ambrose Advocates, knowing they were proceeds of crime, and used them to purchase properties.
In a heated courtroom exchange, Muriithi described the complainant, Kamanda, as his brother-in-law, revealing a long-standing business relationship dating back to 2014.
He accused his sister of colluding with Kamanda to ruin him financially, claiming the legal action is a misuse of the justice system driven by personal grievances.
“The fallout with my sister has left me impoverished,” Muriithi told the court, requesting lenient bond terms.
The prosecution, however, argued that Muriithi poses a flight risk and requested he be denied bail. Magistrate Ondieki ordered Muriithi to remain in custody until Tuesday, when a ruling on his bail application will be delivered.
