Tuungane CBO Distributes Dignity Packs in Kilifi to Celebrate Global Menstrual Hygiene Day
Tuungane CBO marked the Menstrual Hygiene Day by distributing dignity packs comprising sanitary towels, multipurpose liquid soap and panties to 75 most in need girls and young women on Thursday 28 May, in Plantation and Bofa areas in Kilifi.
The initiative dubbed “touch a girl’s life” saw well-wishers contribute in cash as well as in form of non-monetary commodities. The two groups supported included a talent group in Bofa – Necessary Arts as well as a group of girls and young women in Plantation area as guided by the area village elder Peter Owino.
Speaking after the activity, Owino thanked Tuungane for the noble initiative, citing that the Menstrual Hygiene session facilitated to the girls will go a long way in ensuring they adopt better hygiene methods unlike in the past.
Male involvement
“It is helpful that you came and taught the girls about menstrual hygiene. I must commend the CBO for starting conversations around having male counterparts advocate for the rights of the girls and young women to access basic commodities like sanitary towels. It is my hope that such activities will continue so as to impact even more lives in the community,” he said.
In her speech, the Tuungane CBO Co-founder and CEO; Miss Lydia Otieno thanked all the well –wishers who joined in the COVID19 Sanitary Pads Drive and promised to work together with local leaders and the community for positive social impact among young people in Kilifi County.
” I want to extend my gratitude to all our volunteers and partners for being part of this worthy cause. I believe in our slogan ‘ Together For Prosperity’ and we will continue to work together to ensure a more sustainable world for future generations. I would also like to encourage all of us to take precautionary measures to contain the COVID19 crisis that has currently put everything on hold. Wash your hands with soap and keep social distancing in public places. We are in this together,” Otienostated.
Previously, Tuungane CBO has been involved in other activities ranging from facilitating water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programs on oral health and hand washing in Children’s homes and schools around Kilifi North Sub- County.
