Uhuru Narrates The Intense First Fourty Minutes They Met With Raila For The Handshake
Speaking at the Bomas of Kenya today, President Uhuru Kenyatta has narrated his first tense meeting with ODM leader Raila Odinga that led to the famous Handshake.
According to the president, the atmosphere in the room could be cut with a knife due to resentment the two had carried over the years for each other. When the two met, they sipped tea for over forty five minutes only engaging in small talk once in a while. “Haikuwa rahisi (it was not easy)” The cheerful president narrated. “We had tea, and for about 45 minutes without really saying anything to each other. This was because the anger we had towards each other”
The two finally opted to put aside their differences and hence the The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) was born.
The president has urged leaders to put aside their differences and work towards putting Kenyans first by endorsing the BBI. The president was speaking at the Bomas of Kenya on Wednesday for the launch of the BBI report.
