From Watchman to Millionaire: The JJ Titus Success Story
How one man built a business empire through patience, perseverance, and honest work
While many Kenyan businesspeople have taken shortcuts to wealth, the story of JJ Titus offers hope to those who believe success is beyond their reach. The former watchman’s journey from poverty to prosperity demonstrates that integrity and determination remain viable paths to success.
Jacob Mwiti, known professionally as JJ Titus, began his career earning just Ksh 8,000 monthly as a security guard. After deductions, he took home Ksh 4,500, sharing cramped accommodation with five others in Mukuru Kwa Njenga slum because he couldn’t afford private housing.
“I was being paid Ksh 8,000 and after deductions I would remain with Sh 4,500. I was living in Mukuru Kwa Njenga with five people as I could not afford rent,” he recalled in a previous interview.
Before examining Titus’s rise to success, we must address previous reports that incorrectly linked him to business controversies with Cross-Border Investors. Our investigation reveals these reports were inaccurate. The factual position is that investors failed to pay Titus according to their signed agreement and departed without obtaining proper permits required under Kenyan law.
Our research confirms that Titus operates several reputable companies both locally and internationally. The philanthropist maintains strong relationships with verified investors who attest to his integrity and honesty. All companies associated with him maintain excellent reputations and operate with full compliance.
Sources indicate that through Titus’s connections, Kenya has attracted investors who create employment and generate government revenue. Future publications will detail his company portfolio, including Kapari Works Ltd, which contributes significantly to Kenya’s infrastructure development.
Despite facing numerous challenges, Titus’s determination proved unwavering. While working as a watchman, he saved diligently and acquired software development skills, which became the foundation of his business empire.
This technical expertise opened doors to software sales, eventually leading to his current role as Chief Executive Officer of Lid Group of Companies. The conglomerate operates across IT manufacturing, events management, media, and agribusiness sectors.
Industry sources confirm that Lid Group commands respect both domestically and internationally, built on a foundation of honest, hardworking employees and straightforward business practices.
After years of operating behind the scenes, Titus gained public attention in 2022 when his wife, Florah Thurah, surprised him with a Ksh 12 million Jeep Wrangler for his birthday. The gesture highlighted their partnership and mutual support in building their success.
Their relationship exemplifies how couples can achieve prosperity together through dedication and shared vision.
Despite his current wealth, Titus remains connected to his humble beginnings in Mukuru Kwa Njenga. He actively supports impoverished communities across Kenya, demonstrating his commitment to lifting others as he was lifted.
“Many people think that I woke up to richness. If there is someone who has come from zero, it’s me, and I am proud of myself. If I tell you that I was a watchman, you won’t believe,” he stated in a recent interview.
Community members from his hometown are encouraging Titus to consider political office. Our next publication will reveal whether he plans to accept their invitation to contest in upcoming elections.
