Former Harambee Stars and Gor Mahia player Collins Okoth alias Gattuso is currently being held at Pangani Police Station for alleged rape and murder of minor.

The 3-year-old girl was found dead outside the building in Lucky Summer Estate where she stayed with her mother and it is believed Gattuso had a hand in her demise.

The incident was initially reported by the area’s assistant chief on the 22nd of April 2024 at Lucky Summer Police Station under OB17/22/04/2024. It was later picked up by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives in Pangani where the matter is still under investigation.

According to the police report, the child was found half-naked to signal she was sexually assaulted and dead behind her mother’s apartment on the ground floor. Police say she had bruises on her neck symbolizing strangulation.

The child’s mother had left the house at 1am and returned at 4am to find her missing. A friend she lived with in the house was also missing.

Gattuso was arraigned in Makadara court on Monday where Gilbert Kiprotich the DCI officer handling the case said that Okoth lived on the first floor of the same building and was arrested because he became restless after a weapon suspected to have broken into the child’s mother’s house was recovered.

Okoth is suspected to have thrown the object through his window. He was arrested on April 23, 2024, and booked at Pangani police station.

In making his prayer to have the suspect detained for longer period to allow for further investigations, the officer told the court that the former footballer was at flight risk as he had attempted to flee the scene before his arrest.

“The respondent (Okoth) packed some of his belongings in the house and was prepared to vacate from the house. On 22,4,2024, at around 6am Okoth left his house while carrying some of the clothes with a nylon paper and he came back hours later preparing to vacate the house,” he said in the affidavit.

The detective told the court that he’s pursuing the involvement of other suspects in the murder and needs time to record statements of prosecution witnesses, gather mobile data records of suspects, and retrieve CCTV footage for forensic analysis.

Okoth will be escorted to the Government Chemist for DNA analysis and later to Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital for mental assessment.
