Bhang worth Sh 12,360,000 in street value was today destroyed by Judicial officers assisted by police officers in Moyale town.
The 309 kilograms of the narcotic was set ablaze at Holale Dumpsite, a few kilometers from Moyale town by Moyale Principal Magistrate Edward Too and Gorbo Ward Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) Martin Muhia.
The two said the decision to destroy the cannabis sativa that had been recovered from traffickers along the Moyale-Marsabit road and local homes was meant to send a powerful message to the notorious drug traffickers the government was committed to eradicate drugs in the region.
“Some of the drug haul which was burned this morning was recovered from houses of businessmen and travelers in Moyale town Sub County and their cases have been concluded and no appeals have been launched so far,” Mr Too explained.
“By burning the narcotics, we are sending a powerful message to drug peddlers and suppliers out there that their days are numbered and it would not be business as usual for drug dealers,” Muhia added.
He appealed to residents to support the security agencies in the war against hard drugs saying, “Drug barons do not care the problems they create in the society by destroying the young generation.
