Nick Symmonds, a 35-year-old middle-distance runner who’s competed at the Olympics, attempted to run 42 kilometres at the same pace world record holder Eliud Kipchoge did in a marathon last week where he became the first person to run a a marathon in sub-two hours clocking in at just 1:59:40.

Nick has competed in the 800m at two Olympic Games, reaching the semi-finals in Beijing 2008, while in London 2012 he finished fifth in the final, running a personal best of 1:42.95 behind David Rudisha’s world record.

The video titled “Olympian Collapses While Trying to Run World Record Marathon Pace,” emphasizes just how amazing a feat Kipchoge (who’s 34) accomplished. Running in oregon, Nick narrates how the pace they are trying to keep up with feels like a full on sprint. “For me, at this pace, this feels like an all-out sprint,” he says. Just 90 seconds in.

Nick soon collapses a little after the 1000 metre mark, at 1029 meters in two minutes, 55 seconds. he explains how he held on for 55 more seconds is amazing, “I was ready to call it after a minute,” he gasps. “That has got to be the greatest accomplishment by a human being in the history of the world.”
