We Were Weeks from Our Wedding… Until Death Stole My Bride

I still remember that day like it happened this morning.
The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and in my heart, I knew I was the luckiest man alive. I had just finished paying dowry for the love of my life, Achieng’. We were only months away from our big day our wedding was going to be the talk of the village. She had even chosen her gown, a beautiful white dress that made her eyes sparkle when she tried it on.

But little did I know… that same gown would be what she wore inside her coffin.

It started subtly. She began complaining about headaches and fatigue. I thought maybe it was stress from the wedding preparations. But then, her skin started looking pale, her weight dropped drastically, and her once-lively laughter became a whisper. Hospitals ran test after test, but every result came back “normal.” The doctors said, “Hakuna shida kubwa, she just needs rest.”

But I knew something was wrong.

Three weeks before our wedding, her condition worsened. She’d wake up crying, saying she was seeing shadows in her dreams. She told me of a woman she didn’t know who kept standing at the foot of our bed at night, smiling, but with eyes that burned like fire.

At first, I thought it was just a nightmare. But when I woke up one night and actually saw that shadowy figure by our bed… I knew this was no sickness the hospital could cure.
