ODPP Seeks Orders Barring Sonko From Accessing His Office And Should Deposit His Passport With Court
Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko Mbuvi, 11 others & business entities appeared before court charged with several counts of corruption relating to irregular payment of sh. 357.3 million. All denied charges.
Prosecution led by James Kihara opposed release of Sonko on bail on grounds that he is a fright risk, is likely to abscond court, intimidate witnesses and interfere with investigations.
Prosecution further sought orders-1.Barring Sonko & other public officers from accessing their offices pending hearing & determination of case. 2. Barring accused persons from contacting/intimidating witnesses/investigators. 3. Deposit passports with court.
Police had earlier in the day tightened security at Milimani Law Courts as there was intelligence that his supporters were ganging up to disrupt functions. However, the Governor has sent a message to his supporters urging them to stay calm.
At Milimani Court and I wish to call upon ALL my loyal supporters and well-wishers to remain calm and stay at home or go to their usual places of work.
I am a law abiding citizen, and therefore ask my supporters to stay away from the courts or any other activities that may threaten the peace.
I urge all my supporters to allow the law enforcement agencies to do their work, and let the law take its course. The peace and stability of Nairobi is more important than anything else.
Kwahivyo tafadhalini nawaomba muwache nipambane na hali yangu Kitu ninahitaji kwenu nyote wapendwa kwasasa ni maombi hata mahaters wangu wote muniombee ninapopambana na hali yangu.
