REREC Boss Arrested Over Forged Documents

Noah Oluoch Oketch, former Finance and ICT Manager at the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation, has been detained following his arrest by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

The commission alleges that Oketch used falsified academic credentials to obtain employment within the agency.

The individual in question, presently detained at the EACC police station for administrative procedures, is scheduled to appear in Milimani court.

According to the anti-corruption commission, the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation is one of the agencies grappling with instances of fraudulent academic and professional certificates.

In the previous month, the EACC communicated to the Head of Public Service and all civil service accounting officers, advising against granting benefits to civil servants departing from their roles if they are found to possess counterfeit academic credentials or professional certificates.

At the same time, the EACC moved to court seeking to freeze the over 100 properties and multiple vehicles belonging to a former Principal Land Registrar based in Thika believed to be proceeds of crime.

In a letter dated March 11, 2024, the ethics body has warned against the processing of payments to civil servants who have opted to resign or retire early as they face cases of forged academic and professional certificates.
