Govt Assures Parents of The Safety of Measles-Rubella and Typhoid Vaccines
The national government, through the Health Director General Patrick Amoth, has moved to allay fears that the newly introduced measles-rubella and typhoid conjugate vaccines could be unsafe for children.
Speaking on Saturday, July 5, 2025, Amoth assured parents that the vaccine had undergone a thorough regulatory approval process.
He explained that the vaccines were first tested by independent groups before their rollout in the country.
“I want to assure parents, caregivers and all Kenyans at large that the vaccines are safe. They have done a stringent regulatory approval process,” Amoth stated.
“Before we introduce any vaccine in the immunisation schedule, we two layers of oversight: one is the Kenya Technical Immunisation Group, which reviews the data to ensure that all the necessary parameters and standards are met before the introduction,” he reiterated.
Amoth thus challenged parents to take their children for vaccination.
“Therefore, you should not fear, the vaccines are safe and we should bring all our children for vaccination.”
Nationwide campaign
Amoth’s sentiments came after Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale launched a nationwide campaign aimed at improving child immunisation and reducing the burden of preventable diseases across the country.
The integrated Measles-Rubella and Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine Campaign was unveiled at Githogoro Grounds in Westlands, Nairobi.
Speaking during the launch, Duale appealed to parents to support the campaign.
“This campaign is our opportunity to close the gap and reach the last child in the last mile,” Duale said.
“Vaccination is not just a health tool—it’s an investment in our country’s future,” he added.
Duale described the campaign as a major pillar of the government’s Big Catch-Up initiative, which targets children who missed routine vaccinations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
