Gachagua Alleges the Huge Amount Ruto Offered Him to Resign
The former DP also accused some members of the National Assemblyof receiving Ksh.500,000 and a number of Senators Ksh.10 million each as bribes to support his ouster.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has alleged that President William Ruto offered him Ksh. 2 billion bribe to step down from his position.
The claim was made during an interview with several vernacular radio stations under Royal Media Services, including Mulembe, Vuuka, and Sulwe FM.
Gachagua detailed the alleged proposition, stating, “The President asked me to step down, promising Ksh. 2 billion to retire comfortably, with proper security and remuneration. He suggested that I could consider running for political office in the future.” However, he rejected the offer, denying suggestions from allied MPs to resign in favor of contesting the 2027 elections.
The former DP also accused some members of the National Assemblyof receiving Ksh.500,000 and a number of Senators Ksh.10 million each as bribes to support his ouster.
He voiced strong criticism against the government’s approach to internal security, particularly concerning the abduction of young Kenyans and local leaders in Mandera. “How can you advocate for peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo while our youth are being abducted here at home?” Gachagua questioned, highlighting the government’s apparent double standards.
Gachagua further critiqued various government policies, including the Affordable Housing project, what he described as excessive taxation, and economic strategies advised by Ruto’s cabinet. He expressed dismay over the political representation of the Mt. Kenya region, claiming, “Mt. Kenya is gone. The President is now seeking support from Mt. Elgon. My only mistake was uniting my people.”
Looking ahead, Gachagua announced his intention to engage more with the youth, particularly Generation Z, saying, “Gen Z lacks leadership, and if they accept me as their leader, I would be honored to take on that mandate.”
This disclosure comes amidst broader political realignments in Kenya, where the integration of opposition parties into the government has been viewed by Gachagua as ineffective, with little tangible change for the populace. The fall-out between Gachagua and Ruto over various policy disagreements appears to be a central theme in this political narrative, painting a picture of a government divided on key issues affecting the Kenyan public.
