Eliud Kipchoge Takes An Early Lead In The World Athletics Award For Male Athlete Of The Year
World marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge is now a favourite among 11 athletes nominated for the IAAF World Male Athlete Of The Year at the World Athletes Awards 2019 in Monaco on Saturday 23 November.
The team of 11 going head to head were selected by an international panel of athletics experts, comprising representatives from all six continental areas of the IAAF.
Two Kenyans have made it on the list, with Timothy Cheruyiot and Eliud Kipchoge set to represent Kenya.
The nominees for the 2019 Male World Athlete of the Year are (in alphabetical order):
- Donavan Brazier (USA)
- Christian Coleman (USA)
- Joshua Cheptegei (UGA)
- Timothy Cheruyiot (KEN)
- Steven Gardiner (BAH)
- Sam Kendricks (USA)
- Eliud Kipchoge (KEN)
- Noah Lyles (USA)
- Daniel Stahl (SWE)
- Christian Taylor (USA)
- Karsten Warholm (NOR)
Fans can vote online via the IAAF’s social media platforms. Individual graphics for each nominee will be posted on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram this week; a ‘like’ on Facebook and Instagram or a retweet on Twitter will count as one vote.
The IAAF Council’s vote will count for 50% of the result, while the IAAF Family’s votes and the public votes will each count for 25% of the final result.
Voting closes on November 4th.
The female nominees will be announced tomorrow.
