Doctor Who Survived 5 Months Without Pay Dies From COVID-19
Dr Stephen Mogusu who had not received his salary for 5 months and had no medical insurance has died from Covid-19 complications.
The Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists’ Union ( KMPDU) announced the death of the 28-year-old medic on Monday.
“At the time of his death he had not received his salary for 5 months, had no insurance & his young family left with no compensation.Too steep a price for Patriotism,” KMPDU said.
Dr Mogusu had been admitted at the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital Intensive Care Unit ( ICU).
His death comes just a day after the KMPDU National Advisory Council resolved to suspend doctors strike for 14 days.
The union had in the past week expressed intentions to down their tools over staffing need, lack of health insurance and inadequate Personal Protective Equipment.
As of November 32 doctors had succumbed to the virus.
