DCI Launches Manhunt For Individuals Involved in Chaos At Natembeya’s Home
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched an intensive manhunt for individuals involved in a violent confrontation that erupted this morning during an Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) raid at Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya’s residence in Milimani, Kitale town.
According to eyewitness accounts and official statements, hundreds of angry residents stormed the governor’s compound before 8 AM, pelting EACC vehicles with stones, deflating tires, and destroying at least five official vehicles. The residents were protesting what they perceived as an unwarranted raid on the governor’s home.
“The attack is a blatant attempt to undermine the rule of law and obstruct justice,” said a senior DCI official familiar with the investigation. “We have deployed additional resources to ensure those responsible are swiftly identified and apprehended.”
The EACC officers were executing legally obtained search warrants as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged irregular procurement and fictitious payments amounting to KSh 1.4 billion by the Trans Nzoia County Government during the financial years 2022/2023 and 2024/2025.
Governor Natembeya was not present at the residence during the raid, which began before 8 AM and lasted over two hours. The search was being conducted in the presence of family members, the county attorney, and legal representatives when the attack occurred.
“The search at Governor Natembeya’s residence was conducted in the presence of family members, the county attorney, and legal representatives,” reads part of the DCI statement. “However, the operation was disrupted when a hostile group of individuals forcibly entered the premises, overpowering the security personnel assigned to safeguard the operation.”
In addition to damaging vehicles, the perpetrators allegedly stole seized items and other valuables from the EACC vehicles, prompting authorities to deploy additional security personnel to maintain order at the scene.
The incident has drawn mixed reactions from locals, with some viewing the raid as politically motivated.
“They are making Natembeya more popular by these theatrics,” remarked one local resident, reflecting growing tension between county leadership and national government agencies.
Law enforcement agencies have established checkpoints across major roads in Trans Nzoia County, and CCTV footage from surrounding properties is being reviewed to identify the culprits. The EACC is expected to issue a comprehensive statement on the matter.
The DCI has called on anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.
