Conflict Of Interests: Meru Governor’s Wife And Children Received Sh45M To Supply Facemasks
As Senate Health Committee probes on how Covid-19 funds were utilized and the EACC with DCI hot on the trail as well, new revelations continue to unravel.
According to a document seen by Kenya Insights derailing the companies that supplied Kemsa with Covid equipments a number of curious cases keeps popping.
Caperina Enterprises Limited a company listed under Meru’s Governor spouse, Priscilla Murungi, Caroline and Winnie Murungi won a tender to supply 10,000 of surgical masks. They were paid Sh4,500 for every box containing 50 masks translating to Sh90 for each mask which is above the current market price of Sh20-30.
President Uhuru in his directives to curb corruption had warned against public servants engaging in business with the government, it’s therefore a conflict of interest for the family of Meru Governor to be engaged in doing business with the government.
There are also allegations that the company has been engaging in business with the County.

Caperina Construction associated with Kiraitu’s son Fanon Murungi is alleged to have been supplying the County with Cabros while Caperina Enterprises associated with the wise is also alleged to have done borehole projects for the Meru County.
Everything aside, is Caperina Enterprises Limited an established supplier for surgical masks? Which authority approved them for such? Where did they get their supplies from? These are a matter of human safety and accountability.
Kemsa procurement scam is at the heart of the probe with both the health CS and PS dragged into the pool. Kemsa board has said the ministry officials manipulated the tenders.
