Bees Cause Drama in Makongeni as Goons Who Looted Supermarket During June Protests Are Forced to Return Stolen Goods
I witnessed something on June 25 that I will never forget for the rest of my life. It was in Makongeni, Thika, where chaos had erupted during the anti-tax protests. Protesters were everywhere, some peaceful, some angry. But like always, there were a few who took advantage of the situation to loot. I watched as a group of young men stormed into a supermarket near the stage, smashing the glass door and rushing out with cartons of goods. They laughed and ran as others cheered them on.
I felt bitter inside. This was not part of the protest. People were there to fight for the cost of living to come down, not to steal. I stood with others and watched helplessly as the supermarket owner arrived and just sank to his knees. He didn’t say a word. He just stared at the empty shelves and broken glass, his hands shaking.
The next day, stories started going around the estate. People said something strange was happening to the looters. One had been chased by bees while crossing the railway line. Another had locked himself inside his room screaming for help. At first, I thought it was rumours. But the next day, I saw it with my own eyes.
It was around midday when one of the looters ran into the shopping centre, screaming. He was covered in bees. Not just a few bees. Hundreds. Maybe thousands. They were on his face, his arms, his back. He was holding a packet of rice and begging the bees to leave him alone. People scattered. Some climbed on top of kiosks. Others locked themselves inside their shops. The man threw himself to the ground, crying and shouting that he was ready to return everything. To continue click here.
