Athletes’ Speed Will Be Tracked Using Colorful Overlays In Tokyo 2020 Olympics
Colorful augmented overlays will be used to track athletes’ speed during the Olympics in Tokyo in 2020.
In a video released by Intel, overlays that will identify the top runners names and speeds were previewed. In the video a color trail appears behind the athletes seemingly changing with their speeds at different points along the track were previewed.
The tehnology called 3DAT, or 3D Athlete Tracking works in “near real time,” relying on AI and computer vision, allowing broadcasters to add it live Intel says.
Yiannis Exarchos the executive director of Olympic Channel Services, says the tech will do so much more, sed to help viewers understand different phases of sprinting events during the track and field competition.
The tech is also capable of understanding the “form and motion of athletes,” and Exarchos says this will all result in new “insights” into the Olympic competitions for viewers.
