The United States Embassy in Kenya will only accept Ksh 1000 notes from the new currency starting September 12 at its consular section.
In a statement released late Thursday, the Embassy said this was in compliance with the directive from the Central Bank of Kenya that will see old sh 1000 notes cease to be used in the country as legal tenders.
“Please note that older bills of lesser denominations (500, 200, 100 and 50) will continue to be legal tenders after October 1 and will be accepted by the consular section.” The statement read.
The old Sh1,000 banknotes are being withdrawn by the Central Bank of Kenya from the market.
