In 2015, his song “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” climbed even higher, peaking at number 26.

He was also part of the group Rich Gang, alongside fellow Atlanta rapper Young Thug. Their 2014 single “Lifestyle” became a major success.

Lamar’s debut studio album, Rich as in Spirit (2018), made a moderate entry on the Billboard 200.

Rich Homie Quan, born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, developed a strong interest in reading while in school. He enjoyed literature and creative writing classes.

He also played baseball for over four years at Ronald McNair Sr. High School, where he excelled as a center fielder and leadoff hitter.

During his freshman year, he played varsity and even received a scholarship offer from Fort Valley State University. However, due to tuition costs, he dropped out after two weeks and took a job at a nearby airport.

After losing that job, Lamar became involved in burglaries and spent 15 months in jail. In an interview with XXL, he shared, “I never saw myself going this far with music.

Music was just a hobby at first… After I got out of jail, I started to take it more seriously, and that’s when my dream came true.”

Rich Homie Quan was influenced by dirty south music, drawing inspiration from artists like Jeezy, Gucci Mane, T.I., Lil Boosie, Lil Wayne, Kilo Ali, Outkast, and Goodie Mob.

On September 29, 2014, Lamar’s father, Corey Lamar, was shot during an attempted robbery at a barber shop in Atlanta. Fortunately, he survived the attack.

Lamar passed away on September 5, 2024, at the age of 34 in his Atlanta home from a suspected drug overdose, as confirmed by his friends and family.

Legal Issues

In November 2016, Rich Homie Quan sued his former label, “Think It’s A Game,” for $2 million, claiming he hadn’t received the royalty payments he was owed.

The label countersued for breach of contract. Eventually, both parties settled the dispute out of court.

In 2017, police arrested Quan and four others on felony drug charges after stopping them at a checkpoint on Highway 1 in Louisville, Georgia.

Authorities claimed to have found heroin, marijuana, weapons, and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. They charged Quan with felony drug possession with intent to sell.
