The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has this afternoon revived 64 licences for Saccos operating several Public Transport Vehicles (PSVs) in major routes in the country.
The transport authority has further cautioned commuters from boarding the blacklisted vehicles until they comply with road safety regulations and declared safe.
“The National Police Service (NPS) has been advised to impound vehicles belonging to the Saccos/Companies found operating following the revocation of their licences,” the Authority said.
The step by NTSA comes amid heavy rains that has disrupted transport in major roads across the country and is also expected to spark chaotic travels ahead of Monday’s scheduled schools reopening.
The suspension follows Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen’s directive to suspend licenses for Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) that fail to adhere to the established rules and guidelines governing their operation.
“Transport operators not meeting the minimum requirement of PSV Regulations 2014, i.e. the minimum threshold of serviceable vehicles, non-compliance with road service licences, inspection certificate and PSV licences are hereby suspended,” the CS directed then.
