Senator Ledama Olekina Warns Those Buying Land In His Narok County
Narok Senator Ledama Olekina (pictured) has issued a stern warning to Kenyans planning to buy Agricultural land in Narok County and subdivide them into plots for commercial purposes.
The senator in a post on popular social media site Twitter said the County of Narok would not be approving change of user applications if the use of purchased land was not of agricultural use.
“So be WARNED Agricultural land is Agricultural land and not for gerrymandering or exploitation. Buy the Land and use it for Agriculture not plots.” Olekina said.
Free advice to those buying Agricultural land in Narok County and subdividing it into plots! We will not approve change of user! So be WARNED Agricultral land is Agricultural land and not for gerrymandering or exploitation. Buy the Land and use it for Agriculture not plots.

Sub-division of agricultural land in Narok and Kajiado is now a major threat to food production and security in the region.
Kenyans quickly reacted to the sentiments arguing that the senator had no legal grounds to dictate what owners of land in the county decided to use it for in order to make profit, other users claimed the move was political looking to alienate outsiders who are seen to be increasing in numbers and a threat to his leadership while others commended the move against land fragmentation which is becoming a threat in the country.
Land experts have in the past cautioned against the ongoing uncontrolled urban development that together with land fragmentation may in the long run result to food insecurity in the country.
