Government Suspends Their Directive To Have All Imported Goods Transported Via SGR
Given the public outcry and sustained demos that have in the recent past rocked Mombasa, the government has bowed to pressure by residents to rescind the decision.
In a recent study done by UoN on the impact of the SGR on the Mombasa economy, it was determined that it was killing the economy. (Read the assessment report below)

Jobs have been lost as many CFS owners forced to close business over huge losses. Consequently, jobs created along the industry as well gone.
The transport CS in a meeting held today at Harambee House in Nairobi together with other stakeholders from the coastal region led by the Governor Joho, came to a winning conclusion for the Mombasa economy.
CS Macharia announced the suspension of the mandatory haulage of sea cargo on SGR. This is expected to jump start the ailing economy where its said Mombasa has been turning into a ghost town.
