Ruto’s Aide-de-Camp Colonel Fabian Lengusuranga Promoted to Brigadier
President William Ruto’s Aide-de-Camp Colonel Fabian Lengusuranga has been promoted to the rank of a brigadier.
Lengusuranga was among the KDF officers whose ranks were officially conferred during an investiture and swearing-in ceremony held at State House, Nairobi.
The promotions, postings and appointments were made following recommendations by the Defence Council and approved by the president.
The council is chaired by Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya.
Lengusuranga, who hails from the KDF’s elite Special Forces unit, was appointed ADC to President Ruto in October 2022.
He joined the Kenya Army in 1999 and has risen steadily through the ranks, previously serving as a senior Special Forces branch commander.
He took over from Brigadier Timothy Lekolool.
Lekolool served as retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s ADC from 2018 and briefly held the same position under Ruto before Lengusuranga’s appointment
Lekolool was the first ADC in Kenya drawn from the Navy, making history in that capacity.
The title “Aide-de-Camp” originates from French, meaning “helper in the military camp.”
The ADC is a principal military officer assigned to the President, often seen at the Head of State’s side during official functions.
Though largely ceremonial, the position carries immense responsibility.
The ADC oversees the President’s daily schedule, coordinates movements, and serves as a key link between the President and the wider security team.
Brigadier Lengusuranga’s promotion marks a significant milestone in his distinguished military career.
It is seen as a testament to his dedication and professionalism in service.
His steady presence beside the President symbolises not only security but the honor and tradition associated with the Kenyan military’s top officers.
Before Uhuru’s term came to and end, he promoted Lekolool to a Brigadier.
The period in which an ADC will serve depends on several issues, including age, but most of them serve in that capacity for three years.
According to the National Defence Council (NDC), changes at the office of the ADC is effected from time to time because of the career progression of officers.
The selection of ADC is normally done after consultation with the Council.
During the recent promotions, Lekolool was also promoted to a Major General and named the new senior directing staff at the National Defence College.
