Police Rescue Kidnapped Six-Year-Old in Kibra After Sh300,000 Ransom Demand
NAIROBI — Police have rescued a six-year-old girl who was kidnapped from her school in Runda and held in Kibra, following a ransom demand of Sh300,000.
The girl went missing on September 22 after an unknown person picked her up from school. Her mother later received a message from an anonymous number demanding the cash for the child’s release.
Investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), working with the Sarang’ombe community policing team, launched a forensic-led search that led them to the Soweto slums in Kibra.
Officers found the girl inside an unfinished church building, wrapped in worn-out bedding. Her school uniform and shoes were also recovered.
The suspect fled before police arrived. The child was taken to a medical facility for care and observation and is reported to be in stable condition.
The DCI has urged members of the public to provide any information that could help in the arrest of the suspect. “#FichuaKwaDCI. Call 0800 722 203 (Toll-free) or WhatsApp 0709 570 000 to report anonymously. Usiogope!” the agency said in a statement.
The incident comes weeks after police in Murang’a arrested four individuals linked to a kidnapping syndicate in Kangema Sub-County.
The suspects had abducted a woman and forced her to withdraw Sh585,000 from her bank account.
A Toyota Corolla used in the abductions was impounded and is now being held as an exhibit.
DCI detectives said the hunt for the Kibra kidnapper is ongoing, with key leads being followed to ensure the suspect is brought to justice.
