Police Officer Helps Raise Over Sh400K for Woman Humiliated by Pastor Ng’ang’a After Asking For Rent
In a video that later went viral, Pastor Ng’ang’a was heard directing her to seek help from the police or the Nairobi City County Government led by Governor Johnson Sakaja.
Police Officer Sammy Ondimu Ngare has come to the rescue of a woman who was humiliated by a pastor she had turned to for help with her rent arrears.
Moraa Tigisi, a resident of Mukuru Kwa Njenga, had been locked out of her house by her landlord after failing to pay rent. With no job and nowhere else to turn, she sought divine intervention, like many hopeful Christians, and visited Pastor James Ng’ang’a’s church in Nairobi, hoping for assistance.
However, her visit took a devastating turn when the pastor publicly humiliated her in front of the congregation. He dismissed her plea for help, telling her to seek assistance elsewhere and stating that his role was solely to address spiritual matters.
In a video that later went viral, Pastor Ng’ang’a was heard directing her to seek help from the police or the Nairobi City County Government led by Governor Johnson Sakaja.
“Go to the police, go to the police! Where is your local police station? If you’ve been locked out, why come here looking for money? This is a place for prayers. If it’s about prayers, fine. For money, go to the government, go to Sakaja Johnson. Aren’t there affordable houses built? Why don’t you go live in those affordable houses? Don’t bring your housing problems here,” Pastor Ng’ang’a said.
The video sparked outrage among Kenyans, including Police Officer Sammy Ondimu Ngare, who quickly organized a fundraising campaign for Moraa. As of press time, the campaign had raised over Sh400,000.
Sammy revealed that comedian Terrence Creative contributed by paying three months’ rent for Moraa and covering her son’s school fees.
It was also disclosed that in Mukuru Kwa Njenga, rent defaulters often have their doors welded shut to prevent them from re-entering their homes.
As donations continue to pour in, Moraa’s fortunes have taken a positive turn. Express Way Lounge, located along Mombasa Road, has offered her a job opportunity to help her sustain her family.
