Light Aircraft Crash in Malindi Claims Lives
Malindi, Kenya – A light aircraft met a tragic end in the Kwa Chocha area along the Malindi-Mombasa highway on Friday afternoon, January 10, 2025. The plane, engulfed in flames upon impact, reportedly landed on several motorcycles, leading to the confirmed deaths of at least three to five individuals.
Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos as the aircraft descended rapidly, crashing into the busy highway area. Videos and photos circulating on social media show the wreckage ablaze, with thick smoke rising into the sky. The exact number of casualties remains unclear as emergency services continue to respond to the scene.
The incident has sparked a conversation about the safety of small aircraft, particularly given the history of similar accidents in the region.
This is not the first time Malindi has witnessed such an event. Previous reports have detailed several incidents involving light aircraft, ranging from mechanical failures to emergency landings. The Kenya School of Flying, known for its operations in the area, has been involved in several past mishaps where pilots and students escaped with minor injuries, highlighting ongoing concerns about aviation safety.
