Lawyer Accused Of Withholding Client’s Money From Insurance Claim Pays After Being Exposed
A Meru based lawyer Gituma Kaumbi Kioga found himself being the center of attention following claims that he was withholding cash awarded to one of his client from an insurance company.
The issue was raised in X (formerly Twitter) in which he claimed that his sister had lost both her husband and her kid in a road accident in 2017. She then filed a case in court and was awarded Sh769,000 by the insurance company and which he claims was never given to the widow and instead the lawyer kept it and appealed the case and was awarded Sh.1.6 million on 19th January 2024.
He went further to allege that the lawyer refused to release the cash to the lady and infact kept it a secret until they went and found out about it from the insurance company themselves.
The lawyer denied having received the cash and was still awaiting response from Britam insurance company claims which were disapproved by receipts of payment from the company to Mr. Kaumbi’s law firm Kaumbi & Company Advocates.
However, in a quick turn and in a manner to deescalate the situation that was already running on social media, the lawyer sent the cash to the widow.
