KNEC Update: 2024 KCSE Results Slips Now Available at Local Education Offices

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) announced today, February 5, 2025, that the results slips for the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations have been distributed to all Sub-County Education Directors (SCDE) offices across the country.

“Schools are urged to contact their respective SCDEs to retrieve the result slips,” KNEC stated in an official release.

The results slips are crucial for students aiming to join various tertiary institutions or embark on their career paths.

Increased University Entry Qualifications

During the results announcement at Mitihani House on January 9, 2025, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba highlighted a significant increase in the number of students achieving university entry grades. In 2024, 246,391 candidates, representing 25.53% of the total 962,512 examinees, scored a C+ or higher, compared to 201,133 (22.27%) in 2023.

TVET Diploma Qualifications

Ogamba also pointed out a rise in the number eligible for TVET Diploma courses, with 476,889 candidates (49.41%) achieving C- or above in 2024, an increase from 401,216 (44.42%) the previous year.

Performance Highlights

The top performers in the 2024 exams included 9,436 candidates with A- grades, up from 7,254 in 2023. Additionally, there were 19,150 B+ scores and 43,120 B plain grades, both showing an increase from the previous year’s numbers. However, the number of candidates scoring grade E also rose slightly, with 48,333 in 2024 compared to 48,174 in 2023.

Examination Irregularities

On a less positive note, 840 candidates had their results canceled due to examination irregularities, while results for 2,829 candidates were withheld pending further investigation.

This year’s results reflect both an increase in academic achievements and the ongoing challenges in maintaining exam integrity.
