How Intelligence-Led Investigation Ended In Arrest Of Suspect Who Stole Anti-Terror Officer’s Gun Stolen At A Carwash
Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday April 3, 2024 arrested a suspect who stole a gun from a senior Anti-Terror Police officer in Nairobi.
This was after the pistol was reported missing on April 2, 2024 at around 7.30pm, after it was stolen from the police officer at a car wash along Ralph Bunche road in Nairobi.
“Today the 3rd April 2024 at around 1030 hrs the suspect Arnold Ouma Ogunda aged 21 years was arrested in an intelligence led multi-agency operation along Loita street within the Nairobi CBD and the firearm a ceska 83 browning pistol loaded with eight (8) rounds recovered.
“The suspect was attending to the officer’s car and is clearly seen on CCTV taking out the firearm from the dashboard safe, concealing it under the apron and exiting through the main gate still donning the overall which is ordinarily left at the workplace when reporting off duty,” read part of the police report.
The suspect is currently being held at Kilimani Police Station, as the officers prepare to arraign him in court.
His arrest came barely 24 hours after the incident was reported at the Kilimani Police Station, after the complainant reported about the missing firearm at a car wash around the Hurligham area.
The suspect was identified after police checked the CCTV footage at the car wash.
Police had visited the car wash yard and interrogated staff as part of the probe, fearing that such a weapon could be used to commit crimes.
Meanwhile, police urged carwash owners to vet their staff as part of efforts to avoid similar theft incidents in future.
