Gachagua Alleges Secret 101-Officer “Killer Squad” Formed During His Tenure as Deputy President
Former DP claims NIS-trained unit uses unmarked vehicles to conduct extrajudicial killings and abductions
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made startling allegations that a covert assassination unit comprising 101 elite officers was established while he still served in government, with training allegedly conducted by the National Intelligence Service.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, Gachagua claimed the squad was secretly assembled from officers within the Administration Police Service and subjected to specialized training in what he described as “abductions, killings, and cover-ups.”
“This squad of 101 people was formed when I was still in government. The officers were recruited from the Administration Police unit for special training by the NIS on abductions, killings, and cover-ups,” Gachagua stated during the briefing.
The former Deputy President alleged that the unit operates under the direct command of NIS Director General Noordin Haji and deliberately creates confusion about its identity by using unmarked Subaru vehicles to appear affiliated with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
“The National Intelligence Service has procured unmarked Subaru vehicles to create the false impression that this killer gang is part of the DCI. The truth is, this has nothing to do with DCI,” Gachagua emphasized.
The explosive claims come in response to a viral video that surfaced on July 7, showing heavily armed, masked men in civilian clothing firing at unarmed protesters at an undisclosed location.
Gachagua alleged these individuals were members of the same unit he described.
“This killer squad, armed with assault rifles and operating in a convoy of unmarked Subarus, is shooting and killing innocent protesters indiscriminately. They are hooded and masked to hide their identity, and they masquerade as DCI officers to escape accountability,” he added.
The allegations raise serious questions about the accountability of security forces and the role of intelligence services in civilian operations.
Gachagua characterized the unit as a “rogue force acting with impunity and in defiance of court orders against the use of excessive force on civilians.”
In a direct appeal to President William Ruto, Gachagua stated: “Stop killing our children, President. I’m urging the youths to consider registering to deal with Ruto once and for all, come 2027.”
The claims come amid heightened tensions following recent protests and allegations of excessive force by security personnel.
The timing of Gachagua’s revelations, following his removal from office through impeachment, adds another layer of complexity to the already volatile political landscape.
