From Millions to Penniless, How Jealous Neighbors Bewitched My Wins

They say money changes people but nobody warns you how much it changes the people around you. The day I won the lottery, my life turned into a movie. I went from counting coins for bus fare to having millions in my account overnight. Strangers congratulated me, relatives I hadn’t seen in years came knocking, and neighbors whispered my name with both admiration and envy. For the first time in my life, I thought I had escaped poverty.

But little did I know, the worst was waiting for me.

At first, everything was smooth. I bought a car, moved into a decent house, and even started planning businesses that could sustain me for life. But barely three months after my win, everything started collapsing in ways that defied logic.

The car I bought broke down beyond repair. My businesses never took off, money just vanished into thin air. I fell into strange debts that I couldn’t explain. Suddenly, I was constantly sick, spending more time in hospitals than in my own home. Every time I tried to invest, it backfired. Before long, the millions I had won were gone. Just like that.

And the most painful part? The same neighbors who used to cheer for me now mocked me. They whispered behind my back, “Si we told you, pesa ya mkono si mali.” My relatives who once praised me now avoided me like I was cursed. I sank into depression, ashamed of how fast I had lost everything.
