Detectives Nab Key Suspect In Mombasa Blogger’s Sodomy Case While Trying To Flee The Country
A man who police describe as a main suspect in the September 12 abduction and subsequent sexual harassment of blogger Bruce John Khajira aka Chawa – 001 was arrested at the Lunga Lunga border while trying to flee to Tanzania.
Detectives said the suspect Omar Ali Mohamed known by his moniker as Nyanya has been on the run for months.
His arrest Thursday was a culmination of days and nights of vigilance by duty-bound detectives working jointly with the Immigration Department, who were privy to the plans by the masterminds to sneak out of the country all those implicated in the perversion.
In the painstaking investigation conducted by a select team of detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Nyanya was forensically placed at both the primary and secondary scenes of the incident.
This was besides being in constant communication with other known perpetrators before, during and after the incident.
Notably, detectives identified the motor vehicle as make Nissan Note grey in colour, in which the victim was bundled from his house to the scene.
The vehicle had been hired by Nyanya on August 20, 2024, and returned on September 12 in the evening after the fiendish gang completed their hellish mission.
The car has since been intercepted and detained.
Crime researchers were also able to forensically place the said car at the primary scene (where the victim was sexually assaulted) at a County Government of Mombasa construction site within the Bonje Area for about two hours, before revving to Mwakirunge area where the victim was dumped.
Several accomplices have since been identified and are holing up in various parts of the country. The DCI calls upon them to surrender at any police station or DCI offices.
Four people have already been charged with abduction, gang rape and assault of the blogger.
They are Esther Muthoni John, alias Totoo, and Violet Adera, alias Vayoo, Abdul Hassan Athman, alias Sindimba, and Haji Babu Ndau Mohamed, alias Achkobe or Jay.
Mombasa County Lands Executive Hussein Mohamed was granted a Sh1 million anticipatory bond with strict conditions over the issue.
This is as he waits to know whether he will be charged over the matter or not.
The court was informed that the DCI had completed its investigation into Hussein’s alleged role in cyber-harassment linked to the abduction and gang rape of the blogger and has forwarded the file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for review and further action.
Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has also provided a statement to the police regarding the heinous matter.
