Al Shabaab Abducts Five Chiefs In Mandera
Five chiefs have reportedly being abducted by suspected Al-Shabaab militants in Elwak, Mandera County.
North Eastern Regional Commissioner John Otieno says the five were on Monday, February 3 travelling in a car to Elwak when they were ambushed and hijacked by the militants between Bamba Owla and Ires Suki.
The regional commissioner says a major security operation has been rolled out to pursue the abductors.
The local administrators, reports say, were heading for a strategic meeting ahead of President William Ruto’s tour of the region this week.
Ruto is expected to visit Garissa, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir and Isiolo counties.
