High-Profile Burglaries Shake Vipingo Ridge
Kilifi County – The tranquility of Vipingo Ridge, an exclusive gated community in Kilifi County known for its luxury amenities and high-profile residents, has been disrupted by a series of puzzling burglaries.
Last week, whispers of a break-in at a senior government official’s home were quickly denied by authorities, but this week, a confirmed incident was reported on Tuesday, January 14. The homeowner, currently in Belgium, was informed by their caretaker who resides in the servant’s quarters, that items including a smart TV, carpet, heater, and various household appliances were stolen.
The theft occurred around 6:30 am, with the thieves reportedly entering through unsecured sliding doors. The total value of the stolen items is yet to be assessed, as the homeowner is abroad, but the incident has led to heightened security concerns within the community.
A senior police officer, speaking under condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the case, confirmed that a multi-agency team from the National Police Service is actively investigating. Despite the estate’s sophisticated security measures, including a high perimeter wall, CCTV surveillance, and a dedicated security team, no arrests have been made.
Residents are speculating that these incidents might be linked to internal management disputes. An anonymous resident mentioned ongoing conflicts among the estate’s directors, which they believe might be sabotaging the community’s safety. This theory gained traction following the resignation of the security manager amid these disputes.
Vipingo Ridge’s CEO, Alex Horsey, acknowledged the incidents, clarifying that of the three reported burglaries, one was resolved when the missing item was found within the property. He emphasized that the estate’s security has been bolstered, and an extensive audit is underway to ensure all potential risks are addressed.
“While these are isolated cases, we have increased our security measures and are working closely with the police to resolve these matters,” Horsey stated. He reassured residents and potential visitors that Vipingo Ridge remains a secure and desirable location.
Vipingo Ridge, with its golf course, wildlife sanctuary, private beach club, and scenic ocean views, is a magnet for both Kenyan elites and international visitors. The estate also features an airstrip for discreet arrivals and departures, further adding to its allure for privacy-conscious individuals.
