We Said ‘I Do’ Before God, But Alilala na Dada Yangu Usiku wa Anniversary
I used to believe in love. That blind, all-consuming love that makes you sacrifice everything. And I did. I gave my all to a man who left me for dead spiritually, emotionally, and nearly physically.
We got married in church. Full mass, vows, and all. The kind where people cry tears of joy. My mother said I was lucky. My friends said I had won the jackpot. What they didn’t know is that the man I was calling “my husband” would one day sleep with my blood sister on the night of our wedding anniversary.
Yes, usiku wa anniversary yetu. While I was decorating the bedroom with rose petals and setting up his favorite meal, he was in our guestroom, moaning and sweating on top of my younger sister. I opened that door with a smile only to see a scene that shattered me into a million unrecognizable pieces.
