Nyandarua Governor Kimemia Disputes Spending Sh12M On Christmas Tree
The county government of Nyandarua has dismissed claims that it spent Shs. 12 million to buy a Christmas tree. Governor Francis Kimemia’s administration instead says it used less than Ksh.200,000 to set up the tree.
While calling on resident to guard against the alarming and baseless accusations directed at the county government, Finance Chief Executive Officer Stephen Njoroge said that the claims were politically instigated by people who are out to paint the county’s image in bad light.
“Governor Kimemia’s administration is not a corrupt government. If this is what used to happen in previous administration, I want to say this is no longer the case.”
He maintains that the Christmas tree was not imported or procured at the outrageous costs being circulated in various platforms.
“The said Christmas Tree was set up by one of our own sons. The young man did a good job. This is propaganda. How will the young man react to the news that we paid Kshs.12 Million for the work he did?” The Finance CEC posed.

He said the department of Youths, sports Gender and Social services had an inclusive budget to also distribute assorted foodstuffs to vulnerable communities across the county.
“If we indeed had Ksh.12 Million then we could have used it in the purchase of food for the needy, not for a Christmas tree.” The CEC Charged
Since last week, he indicated that the department had distributed the foodstuffs to over 3000 people with further gifts to be tokened to new-borns at distinct hospitals in the county on Christmas eve.

Speaking during the tree lighting exercise held at Mairo-inya town in Nyandarua North, the executive noted that the tree lighting exercise has been conducted yearly in the sub-counties on a rotational basis symbolically to mark the Christmas festivities.
County Commissioner Benson Leparmorijo who also graced the occasion called on drivers to be keen on the roads to avert causing accidents.
The administrator at the same time called on the residents to extend a hand of giving to the less fortunate.
