Dowry Tax A Hoax, KRA Says
The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has refuted information circulating online claiming that they will soon start taxing dowry payments to raise revenues.
The story that originated from a blog post published on December 3, 2019, claimed the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) was going to start collecting on dowry payments in a bid to meet its target revenue collection.
The blog had stated that the taxman would periodically publish names of Kenyans paying dowry and those who had paid before would also be included in the new tax bracket.
“This information circulating on social media is fake news and did not originate from us,” KRA head of marketing and communication told Standard Digital. KRA proceeded to then make an official statement on twitter;

Kenyans had already started digging into the taxman immediately they heard the news. here’s a couple of tweets of their reaction.
Who told @kra we pay dowry at once? We pay dowry in terms of:
1. School fees
2. Building in-laws houses
3. Buying land for them
4. Cows/flock
5. Harambee
How will they tax that? The govt should just declare itself bankrupt instead of all these nonsense— Dennis Peter (@dennispeter1992) December 4, 2019
Future dowry negotiations:
"How about you give us your beautiful daughter and allow us to educate her younger sibling through college?"Will they tax school fees?
What a lackadaisical proposal!

KRA want to tax dowry. This made me think.
Why not also :
1 Tax money transfers between spouses
2 Tax childrens' pocket moneyThen let's get creative
In 1705 Tsar Peter the Great in Russia had a tax on beards to encourage clean shaven look.
