Businessman Recounts How ‘Mchele Babe’ He Met at Ibiza Club Conned Him Sh335,000, Says He Didn’t Sleep With Her
During cross-examination, the defence lawyer suggested that Kiaritha had invited Lora for companionship and later became bitter when she refused to be intimate with him.
Nairobi, Kenya — A Nairobi businessman has told a court how a night of partying with a woman he met at a Lavington nightclub ended with confusion, dizziness, and the shocking discovery that Sh335,000 had vanished from his bank account.
James Mwangi Kiaritha, 34, testified that he met the woman identified as Lora Odero during a lively night out that began at Kettle House and later moved to Ibiza Lounge at Lavington Mall.
The two partied until dawn alongside another woman before heading for coffee at ArtCaffe, capping what seemed like a perfect night.
Kiaritha said things took a strange twist when he offered to drop Lora at her residence at Winchester Gardens Apartments in Riverside.
Once there, she invited him inside, but instead of romance, the night took a bizarre turn.
Moments after entering her apartment, Kiaritha said he began feeling dizzy and disoriented before losing consciousness.
“I can’t recall what happened afterwards. When I woke up, I was fully dressed and my phone was beside me,” he told the court.
He added that Lora later asked him to drop her at a chemist before they parted ways.
It was only later that morning, while trying to make a mobile payment, that he realised his account balance had plummeted.
His bank confirmed that several transactions had been made from his mobile banking app to a number registered in Lora’s name.
According to the charge sheet, Sh335,000 was transferred in three separate transactions at 9:51 a.m., 9:52 a.m., and 11:30 a.m. on March 15, 2025.
When presented with M-Pesa statements in court, Kiaritha said he had no memory of authorising any of the transactions.
“I can’t explain any transactions to Lora because I don’t send money to people,” he stated.
He also told the court that he sought medical treatment at Kikuyu Afya Hospital after the incident, saying he felt dizzy and confused, although he did not obtain a medical report.
During cross-examination, the defence lawyer suggested that Kiaritha had invited Lora for companionship and later became bitter when she refused to be intimate with him.
But Kiaritha flatly denied the claims, insisting he never slept with her and had no intentions beyond their night out.
He further revealed that a quick online search of Lora’s name after the ordeal led him to other legal cases she had been mentioned in, convincing him that he had fallen victim to a repeat offender.
Odero has denied the theft charges and is out on bail as the case continues to unfold.
The incident has reignited talk about the growing menace of “mchele babes” — women accused of drugging and robbing unsuspecting men in Nairobi’s high-end clubs.
For Kiaritha, what began as a night of music, laughter, and luxury ended in regret, humiliation, and a Sh335,000 loss — a painful reminder that not every charming smile at the club is worth trusting.
The case continues.
