Jilted Woman Faces Charges for False Abduction Claims Against Ex-Lover in Revenge

A 38-year-old woman appeared in court this week charged with providing false information to police after allegedly implicating her former boyfriend in a high-profile abduction case as an act of revenge following their bitter breakup.

Mary Wanjiru stands accused of deliberately misleading investigators by claiming she witnessed her ex-lover, 46-year-old Daniel King’ori, abducting missing businesswoman Susan Wangeci in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area on May 14, 2025.

The charges, filed under section 129(a) of the Penal Code, center on allegations that Wanjiru provided false testimony to Police Constable Allan Mpaima at Embakasi police station on May 31.

According to court documents, she claimed to have seen King’ori and Wangeci entering an unidentified vehicle together, further alleging the pair were involved in a romantic relationship.

Revenge Motive Uncovered

Investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) revealed a more complex picture. Detectives established that King’ori was not in the Eastleigh vicinity when Wangeci disappeared and had no connection to the missing woman, contrary to Wanjiru’s claims of an affair between them.

The probe uncovered that Wanjiru had fabricated the entire story following King’ori’s decision to end their relationship. DCI investigators found evidence of ongoing legal disputes between the former couple, including a previous assault case where King’ori faced charges for allegedly harming Wanjiru.

Innocent Man Detained

The false allegations had serious consequences for King’ori, who spent 14 days in police custody while investigators pursued Wanjiru’s claims.

He was eventually released when no evidence could be found linking him to Wangeci’s disappearance.

During his detention, King’ori reportedly told investigators he would avoid extramarital relationships in the future.

Wanjiru appeared before Principal Magistrate Renee Kitangwa at Makadara Law Courts, where she denied the charges.

She was granted bail of 30,000 Kenyan shillings with an alternative bond of 100,000 shillings.

The case began when Wanjiru contacted Wangeci’s family through social media, claiming knowledge of the abduction. The family reported this information to police, leading to both Wanjiru’s and King’ori’s arrests.

Despite the resolution of the false information case, the fate of Susan Wangeci remains unknown. The businesswoman’s abduction continues to be investigated by authorities.

Previous legal entanglements between Wanjiru and King’ori, including assault charges and a separate case involving King’ori’s wife, have since been resolved through out-of-court settlements.

Wanjiru’s case is scheduled for mention on July 1, 2025.
