Police Officers Detained After Raiding Woman’s Home in Search of Sh20 Million Linked to Senator

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives are investigating a shocking incident in which a team of officers allegedly raided the home of a woman in Kamulu, Nairobi County, in search of Sh20 million reportedly stolen from Turkana Senator James Lomenen.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, February 9, has raised serious concerns about police misconduct and the abuse of power.

According to the victim, five police officers stormed her residence, claiming they had been sent by Senator Lomenen to recover the stolen funds.

The woman, who identified herself as estranged from the senator, denied any involvement in the alleged theft.

Despite her protests, the officers forcibly entered her home and confiscated USD 15,000 and Sh200,000 from her suitcase. They then demanded to know the whereabouts of the remaining balance.

The woman reported that she was forcibly taken from her home in a waiting car and driven to various locations, including Ruai and Mwiki, while the officers continued to pressure her for the missing funds.

She alleged that she was threatened and tortured during the ordeal.

After failing to retrieve the additional money, the officers returned her to her home in the early hours of Monday, February 10.

Following the traumatic experience, the woman reported the incident to the Kamulu police station. Senior officers visited the scene and confirmed her account.

Two of the implicated officers, identified as being from the Njathaini police station, were detained, while a manhunt for the remaining suspects is ongoing. The vehicle used in the raid was also identified by the victim at the station’s parking yard.

Authorities are investigating why the case was not officially recorded at any police station, as required by protocol. The senators involvement in the ordeal is also under review. They are also probing allegations of torture and threats made against the woman.

This incident comes amid growing public concern over police involvement in abductions and other criminal activities.

Recent reports indicate a rise in cases where law enforcement officers have been accused of extortion, robbery, and abuse of power. Police authorities, however, maintain that such incidents are isolated and do not reflect the overall conduct of the service.

Efforts to contact Senator Lomenen for comment were unsuccessful, as calls to his mobile phone went unanswered. The Senator has recently been vocal on other issues, including threats to halt oil transportation from the Lokichar Basin until the government addresses infrastructure concerns in Turkana County. 

As investigations continue, the detained officers remain in custody.
