Businesswoman Charged With Sh50M Fraud In Karen Land Sale
A businesswoman accused of attempting to fraudulently seize a Sh 50 million parcel of land in Karen by forging its title deed has been charged with forgery.
Evangeline Nyawira Muriuki appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina, where she denied the forgery charges.
Prosecutors allege that in May 2016, Nyawira, along with others yet to be arrested, conspired to defraud Mary Magdalina Njeri of her land, identified as LR NO.13726, IR 79416, located in the Brooks area of Karen. The land, measuring approximately 0.2024 hectares, is valued at Sh 50 million.
Nyawira is accused of forging a grant title with a second fraudulent entry showing a transfer of ownership to herself. The prosecution claims that she falsely presented the document as a legitimate transfer, allegedly registered by Edwin Munoko Wafula, the former land registrar at the Nairobi Lands Registry.
In addition to the forgery charge, Nyawira faces a second charge of uttering a false document. She is alleged to have presented the forged grant title through her lawyer, Bonface Njiru, to a police officer at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters, falsely claiming the land belonged to her.
Nyawira denied all charges and requested reasonable bail terms. The court granted her release on a cash bail of Sh 200,000.
