President Ruto Postpones Schools Reopening Indefinitely
He indicated reports that show that Kenya will face its first cyclone very soon.
President William Ruto has directed the ministry of education to postpone the school reopening for the second term until further notice.
“The reopening date for schools which was scheduled for this Monday has had to be varied. Transportation has become challenging due to flooded and damaged roads and bridges.” Ruto said.
Making the announcement on Friday from Statehouse, the president pointed out to weather forecasts which predicted that the situation is bound to get worse.
“The rains will persist increasing both in duration and intensity for the rest of this month and possibly after. Kenya may face its first ever cyclone which may hit at any time,” he stated.
He indicated reports that show that Kenya will face its first cyclone very soon.
“This cyclone will hit any time, and it’s predicted to cause torrential rain, strong winds, and dangerous waves that may affect marine activities and settlement along the Kenyan Coast,” he said.
Ministry of education had announced plans to resume learning in the country on Monday 6th as scheduled.
The announcement comes amid warning by the Kenya Meteorological Services of heavy rainfalls in the coming days. There is a growing concern about safety of the school children with national death toll stretching past 200.
