American singer and actress Ashanti tested positive for the Coronavirus shortly after her brief trip to Nairobi. Posting the news on her Instagram account, the singer said, “Hey y’all I can’t believe I’m saying this but I tested positive for COVID-19. I’m ok and not in any pain.”

Soon after, many people were quick to conclude and point out that she got the virus from Kenya, which is currently listed on the American COVID-19 travel advisory list.
However, in a video post she made on her Instagram, she was quick to clarify that she didn’t get it from Kenya. She said, “Yes, I have been travelling. Yes, I went to Nairobi; I had an amazing time. No, I did not get COVID from travelling, I did not get COVID from being in Africa or anything like that.”

Ashanti was scheduled to take part in a musical battle on the popular online show “Verzuz” against Keyshia Cole which was subsequently cancelled owing to her positive status. The show has now been pushed to January 9th 2021.
