Postmortem Of Mariam Kighenda And Daughter Reveals Finer Details Of Their Deaths
Thirty five year old Mariam Kighenda and her four year old Amanda died from asphyxia, a post mortem by the state’s chief pathologist, Dr. Johansen Oduor has revealed.
Asphyxia is simply known as suffocation. “I can confirm that Kighenda and Mutheu died as a result of lack of oxygen in their bodies. We’ll now hand over the report to police so that they can continue with their investigations,” the pathologist said.
The autopsy shows the mother and daughter died at about the same time with neither suffering physical injury.
The pathologist could not however ascertain the exact time of death after the vehicle plunged into the ocean that the two died. “We couldn’t establish that because the bodies had stayed immersed in the ocean for long,” said Oduor.
Luka Mbaati, the representative for the family says they will sue Kenya Ferry for negligence and for compensation.
The bodies were finally retrieved from the ocean last Friday, October 11, after an operation that took 13 days.
