Keeping up with the trend, another state job in the country has been given to a 72 year old by the president. Reverend Samuel Kobia has been nominated by Uhuru Kenyatta to chair the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).

Also nominated to sit in the commission is a team that includes former Rangwe MP Philip Okundi, former Vihiga Woman Representative Dorcas Kedogo, Samuel Kona, Peris Wambui Nyutu, Abdulaziz Ali Farrah, former Nairobi Finance CEC Danvas Makori and Fatuma Tanyara.

The team will replace the previous team which was led by Francis Ole Kaparo whose term ended in August last year should the list be approved by the National Assembly.

Kobia who is 72 beat former Speaker of the National Assembly Kenneth Marende, former Kenyan envoy to Nigeria Francis Sigei and former Nominated MP Amina Abdallah to head the agency.

The agency formed in 2008 Promotes peace, cohesion and sustainable development.

The succession process was delayed because of a pending legal case. The High Court in January ruled in favour of a case by activist Okiya Omtatah, who had filed a petition to stop Parliament from hiring NCIC commissioners.

Parliament had shortlisted 54 candidates to fill the eight vacant positions before the court suspended the activity.

Just last week, former Othaya MP Mary Wambui, 69, was appointed to chair the National Employment Board – the agency responsible for tracking employment trends for a youthful Kenya.
